Anybody know of any good teen volunteer positions, jobs, or programs in the Toronto area?
-
This school year I'm going into Grade 10 (I just turned 15). I'm looking for something to keep me a little busy after school or on the weekends. I dance twice a week (Tues. & Thurs.), volunteer Sunday mornings until about noon, and I'm going to register for Sunday evening swimming lessons. I plan to be involved in some of the clubs and committees at school, but there's nothing major. I'm looking for meaningful volunteer work ideally (that might also look good on a resume), or some sort of teen outreach/leadership program (this summer I was at the Leaders Today Take Action! Academy, and it was incredible). A part time job would also be good. Failing that, I'd love some recommendations of either educational or recreational programs to either sign up for or be a counselor at. I live in the Toronto area, just a little north of the city in Vaughan. Anything in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is a possibility! I'm open to all kinds of things. Thanks so much to anyone who can help!

Answer:
well I live in Missisauga/Brampton area and its close to toronto, here we have a Parks and Rec site where it shows you what options you have for volunteering, I just recently got my police check done (for volunteering, everyone has to do it) and I handed in my volunteer forms today, i should hear from them within 4 to 9 weeks so a month in a half... I think you should look into volunteer programs at the Toronto district area, try searching "parks and rec toronto volunteer" try not to make it too wordy or the search wont come up right.. i wish you all the best.. from what ive heard though and i doubt its gonna be different from missisauga/brampton area the options are Preschool Youth Aquatics Special Needs Special Events Child Care Seniors Dance Animal Services Theater and thats about it, you can also go to any rec center near by and pic up a volunteer application, you can fill it out their, make sure you have a clean record though cause a police check is manditory =) oh and their are other options besides parks and rec volunteering, there are hospitals, senior citizen holmes, food sheltors and things like that.. just ask around or keep searchin on google.
