Some stores may still be hiring Holiday help...that would give you a little experience. Most young people seem to start off with a fast food chain...try them all!

I know you'll probably have a hand to your mouth in shock when i say it .... but have you ever thought about starting your own business? No one ever became a millionaire or billionaire working for someone else and these days working for others is basically slavery anyway as you get paid crap and taxed until you've only change left and the bills eat up most of that. Anyway, the economy is down so it's a great time to start a business as not only are people after cheap but also stability. Obviously it depends on your nature, hobbies and interests but most businesses cost little or no money to start up. A favorite to startup is Avon as you handle no stock but cut your teeth into networking and market management. Women (and some men) spend massive amounts of time looking good and grooming themselves and Avon taps into that market well. At 17 you'll have lots of friends, relatives and "people you just know" who would buy makeup and perfumes. The other favorite is ebay -though it's more of a blackmarket these days- it has sizable traffic for goods and you can pickup stuff cheap at yard sales, thrift stores and closeouts to sell at a profit. Stickers, balloons and T-shirts are also very good if you like selling door to door. In winter selling things small things like cheap socks and scarves works too. The main idea of these is not to make you a millionaire overnight but to get you experience in dealing with customers and an eye for markets and products. The reason businesses fail is because they lack people like this
