Where can you find out about good volunteer programs?
-
Me and my girlfriend are both teachers who are looking to find some fun volunteer programs over our summer break. We are both nature/animal lovers so we're hoping to find a program that allows us to do something within those passions. To us, we'd like it to be a vacation except instead of relaxing, we'd be putting our time to good use somewhere in the world. Does anyone have any ideas where we could begin to research programs? While I know it almost sounds ridiculous to be picky about what good deeds you're doing, we would prefer something that is exciting and adventurous.Again, we want to put our free time to good use but still get the life experience in return. Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of places to Volunteer. Your local animal shelter needs helpers, your local hospital, foodbank etc. Another great one is Habitat for Humanity. They build houses for people to buy on low incomes. Great organization. We in Wyoming have a ministry we call Victory Mountain. We have all kinds of outlets for volunteers. You could help with horses, mules, cows, building projects, etc. For more info or contact information you can go to www.victorymountainministries.com There are numerous places that you could spend your time and energy on. Be wise in your choice, it could change your life forever!!

Most blood banks in the country offer volunteer programs for all ages. Most of them need organizers for their daily donation drives. That's why; if convincing people is your expertise, why not invite them to come to a blood drive? I'm aware this is not the type of program that you want. Becoming a blood drive volunteer is about saving lives. It's about making a difference, giving life to those people who are victims of car accidents and those who are sick with blood diseases. You see, when you donate blood even just a pint, it can save three lives. Yet, when you convince ten potential donors to come to your drive, you are saving more than ten lives. Below is an online directory of the different blood banks (American Red Cross, Carter BloodCare, Bonfils Blood Center, etc.) in the country. Why not give them a call and ask for the requirements?
