    There are Recognised NGO's who undertake social work for upliftment of Orphans. Contact them, meet them, visit the orphanages they run and maintain and satisfy your queries if any. Adoption is another course of action. But than one may have limitations. Identify a few school going children and arrange for payment of fees and books directly for their studies. Have them entered in recognised schools, interact with the principal of the school to assist. Childline India Foundation is one organisation that takes care of destitute children. Involve yourself with them. Visit the Web site to evaluate what is being undertaken. Trust you will suitably interact in your area of residence.

In our area one organisation 'Udavum Karangal' means Helping Hands, is functioning. We know the services rendered by them. My daughter sponsored education of two kids. Their educational expenses from their 3rd standard to till now in the school final every year she is funding. We are invited every year to meet them personally & greet them. get them enrolled ina govt. school and pay thr fee...whichis hardly 1000 per year the child wud go to school atleast for the mid day meals... my frnd does this...he pays for the education of two children...they actually work in a chai stall..
