What is the function of a stomata?

  • I have 2 questions.1.what is the function of the stomata?2.Plants with stomata cannot survive in deserts.Explain why this is so.Pls reply ASAP! I need the information for my homework!

  • Answer:

    1. Stomata's are these little holes if you call them that on the UNDERSIDE of the leaf which allows oxygen into the plant letting it breathe. During the heat of the day it closes to not dry up. Which leads to 2. The extremely hot and dry winds in the desert could essentially have a worse effect on the plant because it would dry it up and evaporate the water which is essential for plant life. Good Luck....

Other answers

Stomata control the flow of gasses and water vapor into and out of the leaves of a plant. By closing the stomata a plant can limit how much water vapor it releases into the atmosphere. This is essential in a desert environment where a plant needs to conserve water.
