Is there any site that properly "debunks" Kirlian photography?
-
I have seen a lot of things on kirlian photography; and as of yet, I am not sure what to think on the subject. I have already visited a few websites that supposedly "debunk" it, however from what I have read the debunks seem even less credible then the kirlian photographs themselves. The arguments always seem to consist of "kirlian photographs" capturing anything with moisture in it (which energy could simply be a different frequency of matter, in which case there is nothing to say an inanimate object can't have it..." That objects seem to lose its aura when it dies is simply because its losing its moisture... This doesn't make sense because I have also seen kirlian photos of leaves with missing parts yet still showing up as whole (with a slightly fainter aura at the missing part). To this, the "debunk" websites always respond; that is due to fraud, and leave it off at that. (this is what stump me the most; like does anyone know where I can find a website that ELABORATES???) I don't know about you but this holds about as much weight to me as someone accusing someone else saying that the persons name isn't Tom its Bob...

Answer:
No much to debunk.... a Kirilan phot is produced by passing an electric current throught an object placed in contact with film or photo paper. The electricity causes a reaction in the photographic material which is then developed.... (Remember that photographic materials use silver) OK so much for the how its done... What caused the controvery is that at sometime a comparison was made of a Kirilan photo to what an aura might look like. An applied electric field was made visible and suddenly someone though that is what an Aura must look like.... Kirilan photos were taken of leaves showing this aura effect and several done over time showed a decrease in the supposed aura as the leaf dried up over the days the different exposures were made. Hello, dried leaved don't contain as much water and thus have different electrical characteristics which explains why the aura effect diminishes as the leaf withers. (Its not a photo of life force leaving the leaf as much as its a photo of water leaving the leaf.) Alll that would be well and good until you realize that inanimate objects can also produce "auras" on a Kirilan photo. http://www.ephotozine.com/user/jiovine-109077/gallery/photo/kirlian-coin-12269634 The difference in electrical contact made by the uneven surfaces of a coin causes variations in resistance between the coin and photographic material. These variations are then recorded by passing an electric current through the coin and into the photographic material. Once developed you can see the image of the coin. You can get a similar effect by putting a coin under asheet of paper and rubbing it with a pencil lead. The variations in the coins surface in contact with the paper become visible as the lead is rubbed. EDIT: Let me be clear there is nothing super natural about Kirlian photography. This doesn't mean that such a technique could not have a pratical application. We do know that the electrical properties (resistance) of the human is not constant. The principle of a lie detector monitors changes in the resistance of the skin as one of the parameters of the polygraph. Certainly other physiological factors other than sweating due to lying can cause resistance changes. As such a Kirlian photograph could be used as a tool to document a visual record of resistance. But then again so too could other resistance measuring technologies be used such as a strip chart recorder or DVM The medical community can do research and come up with a corelation of some measured electrical property and relate it to human physiology. Consider the ECG/EKG and EEG as examples of using electrical properties of the human body. So why is it that when a Doctor give you a report on your ECG/EKG he talks about your heart and NOT your Aura?

The fantasy of what Kirlian implies is what is debunked... The images are real and pretty and meaningless beyond the physics involved....

Most of the sites are concerned with HOW the kirlian photo was taken, rather than WHAT it actually shows. They want to give a scientific (measurable) explanation, and so show how the same effect can be generated with other materials - it can be done, but it doesn't really explain why the effect happens. While I remain 'agnostic' about kirlian photography, I don't think that it shows anything about auras as such. It does show that there is energy around living things, but also around inanimate things as well, particularly crystals. Going by people who believe they can see auras, the aura is much more than just such a small field - it extends far more than a fraction of an inch, even for leaves, and for humans can be a matter of feet out from the body - the wider the aura, the (purportedly) more alive the person is. I'm not sure that medical scientists are researching the diagnostic properties of this kind of photography, or at leas, I haven't seen any creditable stuff from such research - most of it is pseudo-scientific and more intent on 'proving' that the effect is real. They are hoping that it can give something more solid to the idea that auras can indicate potential problems in the human body. So, I tend to not accept either group - those that claim the kirlian effect shows auras or the ones that debunk it. Neither have any real explanation for why it happens, and both use a lot of bunkum to prove their points.
