How do flies land on the ceiling?

  • Do flys fly up to the ceiling and flip over to land? Or do they fly upside down up to the ceiling?

  • Answer:

    A study that was done years ago determine their ceiling landing process. The fly approach right side up and paralell to the ceiling. It then makes a 'half flip' to where it is 90 degrees to the ceiling which has it move upward toward the ceiling enough to bring the to it. It then throws it's front feet out and 'stops' the forward momentum. This allows it's lower body to 'swivel around' to allow the remaining legs to contact and stick. It's really much like someone running along the ground and doing a cartwheel by throwing their hands down and allowing their forward momentum to 'flip them over'. There ya go!

Flies actually see upside down, so it's probably much easier to land upside down than it is right side up. They just do a little L curve landing most likely. Image if a plane were upside down and had to land.. It's sort of like that.

their sense of hand and eye cordination and all that is wat diffrent then ours, they have sticky arms and legs that help them stick to the cieling and they use their strenght to hold on to the ceiling... your pretty bored huh?
