A disposable butane lighter's flint is disolvable in alcohol! Why?
-
Many a Zippo owner knows the old trick of using a discarded bictype lighter;s flint when the Zippo's flint is used up. Zippo's can also burn other fuels, though none seems as good as regular lighter fluid. However, alcohol, if pure, will work, but it slowly dissolves any stored flints in the cotton batten absorbent. How does alcohol dissolve what I thought was a rock? I can understand limestone dissolving but flint rock? Help me!
