How do i find molecular formula using empirical formula?
-
empirical formula of nicotine = C5 H7 N relative molecular mass of nicotine= 164 find its molecular mass
-
Answer:
C=12.. H =1... N=14... (5 x 12) + (7 x 1) + 14 = 81... 164 / 81 = 2.02... Molecular formula is: C10 H14 N2...

First find the mass of C5 H7 N (12.01*5) + (1.008*7) + (14.01) =82.124 So divide the relative mass by its molecular mass 164/82.124 = about 2 so now times 2 to each separate element in the compound so the molecular formula is C10H14N2
