Is Heterochromia usually genetic?

What color eyes will our children have? Heterochromia parents?

  • Hello I'm curious on what the likely-hood (percentage wise would be nice) is of my husband and I having a blue eyed child, a brown eyed child, a green eyed child, and a child with heterochromia. My husband has complete heterochromia (left eye is green right eye is brown) I have sectoral heterochromia (right eye blue left eye split down the middle blue on one side green on the other)

  • Answer:

WOW! THAT'S RARE! Your children may receive genes for blue, green or brown. Also, if there are any other eye colors among your ancestors, (are there any others, like pink - usually associated with albinism?), they could receive genes for that color as well. Or they may also be hetrochromic as both of you are. There is no way to know - it's "wait and see what comes out". The only way to know for sure would be to do a complete gene mapping of both of you to see what possibilities occur and in what percentage. A genetic councellor may be able to answer this for you.
