How might clock synchronization work with RSA SecurID tokens?

Can seeing the clock at work make you work faster?

  • At my job I always seem to run out of time before I can get all of my work done, so I end up staying late and leaving tasks undone a lot. I was wondering if anyone knows if having a clock in front of you can help you to go faster. There's a clock where I work but I have to walk a few feet to check what time it is, it doesn't make me feel faster...but I can't see it all the time, either. Does anyone know if having the clock in front of you makes you work faster or slower?? Or does anyone have any tips for me to do my work faster--my job is cutting fruit all day long, and it's really cold where I work (sometimes I feel like the cold makes me slow). Thanks

Well, I suppose that seeing a clock WOULD make you realize that you have X amount of time to get Y amount of work done, yes. Those situations are kinda like 'deadline' situations. The work MUST be done by THAT time. But that's not the way you really want to live or do your job. If you're not completing your work on time and leaving things undone, the real issue is WHY? Are you expected to do more than you can accomplish in a shift? It sounds like you are almost TOO time-oriented. You 'waste' several minutes of your work-time checking the clock. You can always buy a little travel clock and set it near your workstation if you wish, to save you from leaving your workstation. I personally think that 'clockwatching' is a pretty major 'trap' in the workplace. (I've fallen in the trap before and learned not to do it.) Just focus on your work. Accomplish a task. Move on to the next task. Accomplish that. And so on. Take a moment to think about how you can more efficiently do your job. If you can figure what your 'constraints' (bottlenecks) are, you can then find a way to remove those constraints and you will accomplish more - and more easily as well.

What was the last time you saw a clock in a supermarket. Answer, probably never because they want you to be unaware of the amount of time you spend money in there. Same with work, if you don't have a clock then everything will be done in the time it takes not against the clock. If you want to work faster then work smarter. Look at what you are doing and see if there is any way you can complete the job more efficiently. Just the way you move around your workstation can make an incredible difference just as the job of getting the pre-processed product and stacking the completed product.
