I need a fun science experiment to do with kids.

I REALLY NEED HELP!!!!! Any ideas for a science experiment?

  • I need a science question that I can experiment with. And it must be testible and measurable. Any ideas? It's due Thursday and I still have nothing to test. It's for my 9th grade Physics class. It must be simple, fastish, easy, and able to do outside of class please!!!! I can't think of anything. And it has to be something I could so with an everyday item. So I don't have to go out and buy stuff. Oh, and it CANNOT be just a fun experiment. I have to be solving a question.     well...my friend and i did an experiment on fertilizers...we had like 6 plants. We used organic and non-organic fertilizers..that way we could tell if the nutrients in the fertilizers had anything to do with how the plants grow. You can grow them form seeds...which i suggest..or buy some plants and record the heights when you first get them! then you have those height to the heights of the plants when their growing period is over! i also suggest u keep at least one plant that does not have fertilizers in it..im not sure what ur looking for..but hey its an idea

OK, obviously, you don't have time to grow plants and you don't want to stick your fingers in an outlet. And the volcano is not an experiment. It's just a model. Here's an easy one. Get yourself a few ceramic coffee mugs, a few styrofoam cups, and a few of those new cardboard cups with the styrofoam-like coating on the outside. Your question is: which keeps water (as in coffee or tea) hot the longest? Hypothesis: pick one of the three and come up with some reason why you picked it (more expensive, more popular, etc). Independent variables: hot water (get a thermometer that can be stuck in hot water). Dependent: cups. Constants: not really necessary here, but use at least three of each kind of cup to make sure it's not the one cup itself that's giving you a reading and it's relatively constant for the material. Materials: cups, hot water, microwave, thermometer. Analysis: heat the water in the microwave, let it cool a bit to a certain temp, put the water in the cups always at that temp, and measure how long it takes to cool to another temp. Conclusion: graph it and see which is the best at keeping water hot. This should take a few hours, max. It's a simple experiment in thermodynamics (the physics of heat).

Here is a really neat experiment for someone like you. The question is, "Is electricity real or imagined?" To test your Hypothesis, stick two bare wires (Materials) into a wall outlet. When you stop shaking you will understand that current is a Constant. Your Analysis will be to decide if you need to repeat the experiment, and you will draw your own Conclusion. Good luck!
