Do you think there is life in other galaxies?

Do you think other planets in other galaxies may have life on them???

  • and no i dont mean et..lol...

  • Answer:

Yes, but not only that, planets in this galaxy, and also planets or moons in our solar system. Intellegent life, perhaps a great deal more rare. In our lifetime (well, you younger ones anyway), I predict we will learn that Europa, Titan and possibly other moons sustain simple life forms. Extreme biology on earth has demonstrated that all simple life needs to survive is an energy source. It doesn't have to be the sun. It can be thermal venting or friction from plate techtonics. It exists under the ice in Antarctica and miles under the sea in pitch blackness. Life- ubiquitous. Intelligent life - far less so.

it's a mathematical certainty...maybe not the same kind as on earth

There may be as many as 400-billion stars in just our galaxy, and there are untold billions of other galaxies. Some of those have more stars than the Milky Way, some have less. The odds of just this one star--the sun--being the only one with life are (pardon the pun) astronomical!

according to Riley Martin there are millions of others.

We have no evidence either way, but it would be foolish to assume that the earth is the only life supporting planet in the universe, which consists of trillions * trillions of stars, any of which can have planets. So just statistically speaking, I think it's likely, but I think that they are so far away in space and time, that we'll never really know or interact with them.

Hah, try to define life... besides that, people who say it is a certainty need to get a head examination since we have never discivered it. Maybe what they mean is that calculating the probabiliy, it is almost certain that there is life elsewhere ALMOST we have never observed any.

absolutely!! how pompous of us to think we are the only "living" planet

shar71vette

OF course, rather egocentric to think we are that special that we cant be improved upon or that we are that unique.

Heavens Yes. It would be totally illogical to assume "G-d" or "the Tao" (or whatever) made Earth the one and only place that has life, when we know there are trillions of stars among hundreds of billions of Galaxies (that we know of).
