What does 'washing DNA', or 'rinse', mean?
-
We did a plasmid DNA extraction/alkaline lysis, by this method: (http://askabiologist.asu.edu/expstuff/mamajis/alkaline/alkaline.html), in step 7 we rinsed the DNA with ethanol and let it dry off. And I thought that was pretty self explanetory, you washed the DNA so now you just have a pellet of DNA, then you add water and RNase to eat off the RNA etc. You're just cleaning your DNA. But my tutor has asked me to amend my report by asking me to 'Explain what washing DNA means'. What should I write for this?

Answer:
Explain that you resuspend the DNA pellet and centrifuge as a means of further purification.
