How long will my LED light last?

How long does it take for an LED light to light up using a potato?

  • Im doing a science fair project and am concerned because my light bulb isnt lighting up. does it take a while to light or is it supposed to light right away?

  • Answer:

It should light up straight away. Possible problems: You have connected the LED wires the wrong way round to the two metal spikes in the potato. You are not using two dissimilar metals for the connections to the potato. Your potato connections are too small or too far apart in the potato. Your potato is all dried up.

forever. the potato does not make electricity, the two different pieces of metal in the potato fluid chemically react and produce a slight voltage and a very little bit of electric current. too little to light a typical LED you need to learn about voltage current, power or watts, and electrical load or Resistance and the power need to operate and LED LEDs require much less power than an incandescent ( hot wire filament light) but the "potato or lemon battery is not enough Maybe if you connected many in series it might work I bet you have the wrong metals or a very dry potato keep learning

A single potato battery probably does not produce enough voltage to light up an LED... A white LED takes about 3.5 Volts to light... You will need to hook up several batteries in series...

David D

it shouldnt take any time at all. You will require sufficient voltage however.
