Can the Earths magnetic field changing affect the solar flares?
-
I heard that the poles are switching, also that the solar flares dissrupt the protective field around the earth that causes temperature increases? It is linked to global warming. I know my facts are messed up in my head, can you clarify this?

Answer:
Little or nothing the Earth can do would affect the sun. Much that the sun can do effects the Earth. The Earth is protected from the ravages of space and intense UV by its thick complex layer of atmospheres. This series of swirling and changing atmospheric layers is kept in place by the Earth's very strong but constantly shifting magnetic field. The magnetic field is caused by the spinning and churning of the Earth's molten core. Like the weather, changes in the Earth's magnetic field can be predicted but because of their complexity we can only get a general forecast. Starting sometime in the next 20-50 years the Earth's magnetic field will go through a big flux that will last 5-10 years. During that time we will need to take extra precaution to avoid long sun exposure, heat stroke, sunburn, and other short term and long term exposure dangers. Magnetic compasses will malfunction. Weather will be erratic. Then it will even itself out and become "normal" again for another 10,ooo years or so. PS: “Global Warming” is an entirely different process (if it exists at all). It will be nearly impossible to measure any effect of humans on the global environment with so many other changes going on. Though we are clearly destroying local environments and habitats with our continuing urban sprawl (we do love our concrete and garbage), we seem to have little effect on the entire planet besides making the neighborhood we live in less habitable for all living things. Surprisingly, carbon dioxide levels seem to be lower then expected and the receding of glaciers is slower than it should be considering we are still moving away from our last ice age. The term Global Warming was a theory of one possible type of damage we could be doing to the Earth. The data is in and it is not happening. Unfortunately many corporations are invested in the term and refuse to let it go. That is sad because many people have stopped looking for real dangers to our environment and are pushing an outdated agenda and political model.

Earth's magnetic field is determined by the earth's core.So internal changes would affect the field. the sun flares are charged particles erupting from the sun. By coincidence, if they come our way, earth's magnetic field will protect us by deviating them.it's like a shield. But earth's field is too small to affect the production of sun flares considerably. Because of reactions in earth's core, the magnetic field may 'switch off' ,then get inverted, just as you have heard. Definitely this would cause sun flares to penetrate our atmosphere easily. This has NOT happened yet however, and the global warming we face today are entirely because of actions of man such as pollution.
