How much bacteria growth occurs in reused water bottles?

Science fair help!?

  • ok well my sciene fair is in an january and i need help. I am going to do " how much bacteria growth occurs in reused water bottles" but i dont know where to begin with it. Can someone help in any way. Thank you.

  • Answer:

You'll need petri dishes or culture tubes with a general growth medium. Then cut open the bottles with sterile scissors or scalpels and swab, then plate. Serial dilution can quantify the amount for you. Don't forget a control, such as an unused (or once-used) water bottle. You'll need quite a few bottles to give you reasonably statistically significant results. Do you have a place to culture the media you use? Good luck.
