How long will it take to be hired for a position?

Pharmacy technician position: having a difficult time finding a job?

  • I had an interview today at a physicians office for a pharmacy tech position I have no experience in pharmacy other than the 10 class course I took. So no on job training the physician that hired said he can offer me an administration position (call scheduling patients and answering phones) he said he will schedule me for 2 weeks part time as a trial period and after 2 weeks we can take it from there. My question is would it benefit me to take this job even though its not the position that I am looking for in hopes that within due time they might train me in the pharmacy little by little...I have never worked in a clinic setting before So I am looking for some guidance? I am currently in an administrative position at my current job which is also part-time (company in a different work field). So working as a receptionist is something that I already do. I have no interest in working in this clinic as a receptionist long term. Should I still take this job in hopes that maybe I can move up from it?

  • Answer:

If you need the income then yes, take the job. If you are not sure, take the job and then after 2 weeks make your decision. The two week trial period is a mutual testing period so you can say that while you like the boss and the work environment you are looking for something you trained for. If you went to school for something specific and there are jobs out there then look for those. They will have a longer career path whereas working as a receptionist scheduling patients is not a career path job.

I would take the job and hope you can move up.... the turnover rates in pharmacys for techs is very low.... at least in my experience... and also, in my experience... most pharmacists will look for people with experience over someone who got a tech certificate... so i'd take what you can get right now and seee if you like it
