Painful when donating blood?

What's the substance you smell/snort when you are about to faint while donating blood?

  • When I was donating blood I remember some girl that was about to pass out and they gave her something to wake up. Was that a sort of stimulant? Was it alcohol?

  • Answer:

I went through the same encouter with a friend. The substance they gave her was smelling salt. Don't know the whole chemical name, but it was called a sal volatile, which appearently means a crystaline-to-white compound used to arouse conciousness.Wikapedia has a more elaborate definition. My advice here is to google it. Like I said- smelling salt! (Also, absolutely no alcohol!)

No its like a salt thing. Not exactly sure what's in it but I've always been told its a salt pack. It stinks really bad that's why it wakes you up its more of the smell then the actual thing.
