Emergency Room doctor in Japan?

What Is The Proper Title For An "Emergency Room Doctor"?

  • I have to write a report for school on what I want to pursue as a career, And I just want to be a doctor in the Emergency Room. I was wondering if there is a specific title? Please and Thank You :)

  • Answer:

There are two types of Emergency Room Doctor. One is called an Emergency Room Physician and the other is called Chief Medical Director. The Chief Medical Director is an Emergency Physician who oversees protocol and standards for ambulatory care. I know this because the Chief Medical Director is my ultimate boss. Sort of like the CEO is a junior executive's boss.

They are doctors and the specialty is emergency medicine (not emergency room as is commonly used). You can be formal and say emergency medicine physician but when you addressed them it is doctor.

N

"Emergency physician" is the preferred term. ACEP (the American Academy of Emergency Physicians) even tried at one time to get the term "ER" out of people's heads, replacing it with "Emergency Department," or "ED," which would certainly be more accurate. But the timing of their effort was poor: the TV show "ER" popped up and became a big hit, and then Bob Dole came on TV hawking Viagra, and ED became the popular shorthand for something altogether different.
