What does a nurse practitioner do?

What can a nurse practitioner perscribe?

  • I am going the the Andrews center to get some help with a eating problem I developed a year ago and they set me up with a nurse practitioner that got me started taking Zyprexa 5mg, Thorazine 25 mg and Cogentin 2 mg and just recently switched from Zyprexa to Geodon 80mg because I started gaining wait even though I was not eating much and Geodon was to help stop that. Anyways she did not wing me off Zyprexa and got me started on Geodon and now I am feeling like crap every day this week. My question is can a Nurse Practitioner prescribe these kinds of drugs to a patient?

  • Answer:

Yes they can and if you read the information on this site you will be better informed. It depends on which state they practice in that determines what they can legally prescribe. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/440315
