Is hard to became a tech surgical?

I want to became an MRI tech, but I do not know how to start?

  • Answer:

Nearly all MRI techs start out as radiological techs first. Actually, I have never known a MRI tech who wasn't a rad. tech. Rad techs get cross trained in other modalities (MRI, mammography, CT, DEXA) by getting on the job training and studying from books, in order to pass the registry exam. I am unsure which state you are in, but to find an accredited radiologic technology program, you can usually find a list on your state's Department of Health. In California, where I am, it is called the Radiologic Health Branch within the Department of Health. There are specialized schools which just require a high school diploma or GED for admittance, but I am not sure about those. Most employers want a MRI technologist who can step in and do other types of exams. Without a RT license, you would not be able to do exams involving radiation, which makes you limited to just doing MRI. Best wishes.....
