Do i have to apply to medical school for crna?

Can a high school student shadow a CRNA?

  • I was wondering if a high school student would be able to shadow a CRNA or anethesiologist, or if thats reserved for just college students.

  • Answer:

We generally do not let children into the OR, unless they are the patient. If you are part of some program that includes that, or have a close relationship with someone who could pull some strings, maybe. You would still need the permission of the institution, surgeon and patient, though. I know what we do is fascinating, but as a high school student, you are still a bachelor's degree away from applying to medical school or a nurse anesthesia training program. College is a more appropriate time for visiting an OR.

Probably not on your own, if you were enrolled in a course of some kind, possibly. Medical shadowing is always a bit tricky due to privacy and other legalities. I suggest you start volunteering is a hospital, that will get your foot in the door.
