What are the SIDE-EFFECTS to taking Calcium tabs vs. Glucosamine tabs for muscle-soreness?
-
The tricep on my right arm has felt sore during the past three weeks. - This pain has gotten so intense occasionally that I can barely turn my head, when this knot in my muscle creeps up my shoulder. In aim to remedy this pain, I follow the advice of my Grandmother, who passed away at the age of 103 years in 2010. Oma advised to take Calcium tablets. When I take Calcium tabs, the pain instantly subsides! Myself being one who thinks "what if?", I'm considering the Side-effects that this Rx can cause elsewhere in my body. %Am I risking possible troubles in my kidneys or bladder (gall stones) in my body by increasing my calcium intake (600 mg tabs)? I am taking these once every 12-hours..... <-Should the repetition of dosage matter how / if any side-effects become a problem? At a recent dental visit, I asked and am told my Dentist to take Glucosamine Condroitin tabs for my muscle-condition. What are the side-effects to taking Glucosamine Condroitin instead of Calcium tablets to remedy my muscle soreness in my arm? Searching for A CAUSE to this pain, I want to blame my leaving my arm in a "non-moving" position at my terminal for hours at a time. - Getting up and walking around does not seem to totally remedy this muscle-soreness in my arm. I have no General Practitioner to ask, which is why I'm asking this in here. Thanks for known re's.

Answer:
Typically excess calcium will show up as placque on your teeth. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are typically for joint pain, not muscle pain. The combination will enable your joints to increase the padding that surrounds them and produce pain relief. One of my patients actually saw the difference in his knees on comparative x-rays. Go see a really good chiropractor. If you don't know any, go online to www.activator.com, select your state and get one who is Advanced Proficiency rated. The activator method has more articles in medical journals than any other, and is the only chiropractic method Dr. Andrew Weil recommends. The activator method has been used extensively with Olympic athletes.
