What do pharmacists actually do?

What do pharmacists know that doctors don't?

  • What do they actually study in pharmacy that doctors don't?

  • Answer:

They really don't know anything in general that a physician doesn't, they just know a lot more detail about medications, because that is all they do. Your doctor will have a much broader skill set where the pharmacist know meds and meds only, so they can focus and learn a lot more detail. We consult with pharmacists on a regular basis about dosing, side effects, and interactions between medications. Sometimes if I have a patient where I can't find anything else wrong with them we give the pharmacist the med list to see if the medications are causing a problem.
