How can a qualified doctor in the UK work in the USA?

yes, first you need to pass the 3 steps of USMLE + CSA (Clinical Skills Assessment ) and secondly you should participate in match program to become a resident and get your speciality, by then via H1 visa or a permenant residency (which you can apply for via your school) you can get work permit (just note you can't stay and work in USA via J1 visa, its a visa specified for medical doctor's study but thats that, you cant extent your duration of stay with it). having good marks, participating in exchange student programs and research groups, having accepted papers in world's creditable conferences is what helps you being accepted in a residency program. about getting your speciality in UK then going to america Im not sure but I believe USA does not accept specialists graduated outside america.

Yes, you definitely can do that. You would need to get licensed to practice medicine in the US though. Once you have your medical degree, you can contact the AMA (American Medical Association) to find about about getting licensed to practice medicine in the US. For someone with a UK medical degree, I don't think it's too tough to get licensed to practice in the US.
