Why does the media ignore adult stem cell success and instead focus on potential embryonic stem cell therapy?
-
For example, we see lots of articles like this: "Scientists plan embryonic stem cell cure for blindness" (theoretical and five years away). However adult stem cells are already being used to cure blindness. So far, they have used the therapy to restore eyesight in 40 patients. Adult stem cell therapy is already a huge success (and less controversial), yet the media ignores adult stem cell therapy, and instead focus on the potential for future therapy with embryonic stem cells. The evidence shows that adult stems cells may prove to be just as rich and effective and useful. And they already are being used. http://www.fumento.com/weblog/archives/stem_cells/

Answer:
That's a very astute question. In just a few moments, you did a better job of asking questions than most people in the media. The reason the media focus so much on embryonic stem cells is because of the political aspects of it. The Liberals in Washington, particularly those in the Democrat party, are clamoring for funding in embryonic stem cell research. If there were any true successes in curing diseases using embryonic stem cells, companies would have already invested their money in its research. Since adult stem cells are showing such promise, private funding for research is going in that direction. The Liberals know this, and they're using the false hope of embryonic stem cell research to try to steer the public debate in their favor. Unfortunately, the lapdogs in the press simply echo Democrat party lines without questioning them. Abortion is also an element to this debate, though the Liberals aren't explicitly stating so.

I would venture that the Press has an agenda in regards to supporting abortion on demand. I suppose the Press believes that abortion on demand can somehow be justified if the aborted fetus is "useful" to other humans after its untimely death. Of course, I don't believe this, but many do. Thank you for pointing out this MSM fixation too!

The media ignores it because it is not nearly as controversial as stem cells from embryos. Its no fun for the media to report on stuff that is not controversial. They like to keep stirring the pot and love the anger and emotion that it causes. Our media has gotten to the point that they don't report the news as it is, they make news to report.

Because america thrives on drama, not information. The press covers what will sell the most newspapers or get highest ratings. People love something to grumble about, or something to debate over a few beers, without actually having to absorb any information about the subject. In short: People are stupid.
