800 mg of ibuprofen is a prescription strength dose. It really depends on your amount of pain and what the body ache was caused by that determines the amount needed to control your pain symptoms. I would suggest starting a little lower probably at 400 mg. You must take it with a good amount of food to not have any type of stomach upset. Ibuprofen comes from a group of drugs known as NSAIDs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs). This group is notorious for being able to damage the gastrointestinal lining if too much is taken. This can lead to GI ulcers or bleeding in the GI tract. 800 mg one time probably won't do anything to you. Try to start off with lower doses to see if your stomach can handle it and to see if it can control your pain. Over the counter pepcid or prilosec probably won't relieve the GI pain. These types of medications are used to reduce acid in your stomach. When an ulcer really dose exist, these medications can be given to reduce acid so that the ulcers will be able to heal faster. It doesn't sound like you have an ulcer. It just sounds like you took too much and your stomach can't handle it right now.

Any time you take this much ibuprofen (and it's still not recommended...) take an antacid like pepcid to help protect your stomach. You can create an ulcer with that much ibuprofen.

Call poison control; they will know whether or not you should go straight to ER. Drink milk if you can, in the mean time. One full glass. Eat something that is not acidic or greasy. Ibuprofen can upset the stomach in some people; the more you take the worse it gets. I've actually taken a larger dose (600 mg) for a headache, and because of the problems it made for my stomach, ended up with a worse headache. When taking a dose of ibuprofen, you should wait no less than 3 hours (perferably 4) before taking acetaminophen (Tylenol). They don't mix.

like everyone else said thats bad..if you like milk drink that and get pepto bismol or liquid antacid they help, hopefully u didn't just cause an ulcer, i would lay off the ibuprofen and go to the doc and get something that isnt an NSAID like ultram

Call the national poison control center. 1-800-222-1222. They will advice you, what to do. Most likely will have to go to hospital. Are you suicidal? That worries me, that you took that much ibuprofen and tylenol. If that is true also call your local suicide hotline.

yes don't ever mess with meds like that but for now I'd say eat some food drink milk to put something else in your stomach it is going to eat your stomache lining and yif you dopn't feel better soon go to the hospital and get your stomache pumped

Did you eat anything first? I know it's hard to eat when you're stomach hurts, but have some toast or bread and some milk. Don't ever take that much ibuprofen without eating first.

Food. If not see a doctor, however 800mg of ibuprofen is just prescription strength. NEVER do this on an empty stomach!
