How would you go about donating?

How can one go about donating a kidney?

  • I am in great health (except for a bit of depression at times) and my organs are all healthy. I already have the Organ Donor sticker on my driver's license. I am wondering if it's possible to just donate to a complete stranger and if I could be a match. And if I can, how can I do this? I want to donate a kidney and bone marrow to save a couple of children. I just don't know HOW. Any ideas? And no, I don't want money or anything in return. It's purely a move I want to make from my heart.

The Shariah, however, waives this prohibition in a number of instances: firstly in cases of necessity; and secondly in saving another person's life. It is this Islamic legal maxim 'al-darurat tubih al-mahzurat' (necessities overrule prohibition) that has great relevance to organ donation. "Whosoever saves the life of one person it would be as if he saved the life of all mankind." It's tough to be approved as a living donor when you are a stranger, because sometimes strangers want to charge the recipient money, and all donations must be altruistic with no expectation of compensation. First of all, will your religion allow such generosity? Secondly, yes you can give to a total stranger. The process would begin with your doctor, and registration with the kidney foundation. If a recipient is found, and you are found to be a good candidate, the operation would be performed. Bear in mind that you will not be told who the recipient is.

Dear Daughter I just answered your other Question on this topic where you have taken a decision to donate a kidney of yours and wanted to know the Islamic Ruling. I wrote and attached a detail text of Fatwa, but when I pasted it and submitted to you, it did not go through. I do not know why? You can check it yourself as it is blank against my namme. Any way let me write the summary this time to you. In Islam as per the Quran and Hadeeth the Human body is "amana" of Allahu Ta'ala and it should not be tampered. A simple example of it is a woman is not permitted to use the hair of another woman as a wig. Another example even the dead body should not be mutilated. During the transplant of Kidney there are equal failures to the successful cases and the Donors too have problems in many cases. My own Daughter is a Doctor and she is of the opinion that we need to sustain the problem of one person instead of putting the other too in propblems over it. While the Contemporary Islamic Scholars of early period were of the opinion that transplant of human organs is impermissible. The recent time scholars from Arab Countries and few from India and Pakistan are giving permission to it. Famous Pakistani Scholar Taqi Usmani is against it.
