How long does DMT stay in your system?

  • I've quit smoking marijuana for drug testing reasons, while I love the plant dearly, it's not worth jail time. Anyway I've been looking into experimenting with psychedelics (because they dont stay in your system for nearly as long as weed does) and one that caught my attention was DMT(Dimethyltryptamine). My question: How long does DMT stay in your system? Is is like LSD where it's only in your system for a couple of hours, or is it like weed where it stays in your system for weeks/months? Any info is appreciated!! Thank you :)

    DMT is not tested for in ANY drug testing system in the world. It can definitely be tested for in blood, but it would be pointless seeing as how DMT exists in the body endogenously anyways. DMT is constantly in the bloodstream regardless of external use. It is probably high difficult to know when the DMT that you took externally is entirely excreted because of this reason, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. LSD stays in your system for about twelve to sixteen hours, whereas one time use of marijuana stays in your system for about three to five days (increasing the more you smoke).

DMT is readily metabolized monoamine oxidase. You basically can NOT get high on it if you do not prevent that enzyme from metabolizing the DMT from the start. I won't tell you HOW to accomplish that, just that it's a factor. Anyway, the point was that humans normally have monoamine oxidase in their bodies at all times, so the DMT would be VERY promptly eliminated unless you are on bizarre medications (in which case, you could end up with a very ugly reaction if you take DMT). Easily within 24hrs in a "normal" human. [Preacherdouche has been reported, too.]

There are few scientific studies surrounding dmt usage. But an isotope was found to have an elimination half life of 20 minutes in rats. There aren't any quick or standard drug tests for it. Though I can think of a few to hand that could identify it if you were specifically looking for DMT. Based on its structure, it is unlikely to stay in the body for long and likely excreted in the urine as a metabolised product. I would give an uninformed estimate of between 12-96 hours depending on fluid intake and secretion. Blood testing would yield useless unless blood was taken within a few hours of taking it. Hair testing is not applicable to this kind of substance. If you're being asked to stay off of drugs, there is likely a good reason. Try to enjoy getting high off valium or something prescription based so you can give a logical explanation as to why you take them, rather than just a need to trip balls. Enjoy! Edit: I have an MSc in Biology, and certainly seem to know a lot more than a certain poster here. Obviously, any drug is bad for you and has a lethal potential. But we're here discussing the recreational use of drugs, not its morality or lethality.
