What is the difference between a "clinical professor of medicine" and a "professor of medicine"

The word "clinical" implies instructionals in a medical practicum such has a hospital or other 'hands on' medical environment. It specifically pertains to or is founded upon the observation and/or treatment of participants, as distinguished from theoretical or basic science which is usually "didactic" (instructional) and is primarily classroom based.

clinical refers to the proffessor being closely working in the clinical areas involving actual patient care whereas proffessor of medicine is into theory and teaching exclusively

Clinical professors, clinical associate professors and clinical assistant profesors teach medicine at bed side in a hospital ward. Professors,assosiate professors and assistant professors teach in a lecture hall. In all medical schools the same person teaches at bed side and in lecture halls.

in USA In medical school you can perform research or perform clinical rotations. For the first 2 years everyone attends lectures and studies books and takes test similar to most colleges except the subjects of the courses are medically related. Once the students pass the first portion of the Medical Licensing Exam, they can choose to Do Clinical rotations or Do research towards a Phd. Clinically trained doctors go through an internship which lasts a number of years. Many research doctors attend the minimal clinical rotations in order to complete their MD Pass the other portions of their MLE and then move on to their Phd because they have no intention to be a doctor for patient care only research in a University lab or biotech or Pharma
