I want to become an Emergency Doctor, but I am lost as to what I need to do.?
-
I asked a question earlier about what I should minor in. I know that I need to get accepted into a medical school, but first I have to accomplish the pre-requisits. I still need my science pre-req's, but I have finished everything else. The reason I'm asking what I should minor in, is because I want to make money, while I am in medical school. I want a job, but I don't know what I should minor in that will help me get the classes for my pre-reqs for medical school. What do I have to go through in order to go through medical school, I'm soooo lost, please help break this down for me. I went to a community college for 2 years as a highschool student and when i graduate I want to go to a 4-year university, but what minor should I go for if I want to become a Emergency Doctor?

Answer:
I worked part time in medical school, but only about 5-10 hours per week for a little extra money. You certainly cannot maintain another career or full time job. You definitely shouldn't be worrying about a minor. Having a goal of emergency doctor is great, but take one step at a time. Get into the best college you can afford. You want to go to a good college but you don't want to accumulate debt. Do well in college. Take the requisites and take some classes you like and will do well in. Nobody cares what your minor is. But a well rounded curriculum will look better than all science and math. Then get into med school and ER residency. The vast majority of people who think they will be a certain type of doctor will change their mind multiple times. I think it's better to know you want to be a doctor than to know what type of doctor you want to be. All doctors help people in different ways, and it's hard to know which way fits you best until you try it out.

Gary is right; you won't have time for another job and if you do work another job your focus will fail in both areas because of how exhausted you will be. Medical school is a full time ordeal. Your guidance counselor may have a few suggestions, but more than likely you will be doing medical school a good 60-80 hours a week. That's why they give student loans to help you with necessities. Best of luck!

"Make money while in medical school" are NOT words that go together! Medical school is a diuble-time job that requires you 100% attention. ASK YOU COLLEGE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR what classes to take.
