Hospital work experience letter?
-
hey there, i;m looking to apply for a work placement at a hospital, i'll b writing directly to the consultant could you plz have a look and offer some constructive criticism. Dear Dr xxx, My name is xxxxxxx; I am xx years old and looking to apply for medicine next year. I am currently attending xxxxxxSchool where I am studying AS Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. I intend to pursue a career in the medical field after my A-Level studies and I am writing to you to enquire about the possibility of acquiring a placement within the cardiology department at your hospital. I am aware that medicine is a diversified vocation and I am seeking to develop a greater knowledge about the different specialties it offers. I feel that by observing various clinical/surgical procedures I would be able to gain a better understanding of how doctors diagnose and treat various medical conditions. My interest in cardiology stems from my early fascination of the cardiac system and its functions, combined with my A-level study in heart anatomy and risk factors which lead to CHD. This coupled with having lost my grandfather from heart complications, has stimulated a desire to want to learn more about diseases which affect the heart, the treatments and preventative measures of CVD. During the course of the placement I hope to build upon my communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team. Having first-hand experience in a hospital would enable me to witness the daily workings in a hospital environment., learn more about the profession and what it entails as well as further solidify my ambition to pursue a career in medicine. I would therefore be very grateful if you could offer me a placement for 1 week during the summer term from the 9th – 13th July 2012. I know that the experience would be most beneficial for me in gaining a deeper insight into the profession. Thank you for taking your time to read this. thanks :)

Answer:
That sounds perfect to me, you should also consider looking into volunteering in the hospital over the summer. The hospital near me offered a service where people could volunteer to help people around the hospital, taking them to their appointments etc. Universities aren't fused on whether your experience is in a hospital or not as they understand how difficult it is to get these. You should look into working/volunteering a care home or a local charity shop. If you need any other advice in applying feel free to drop me a message I'd be happy to help :)
