Advantages and Disadvantages of being a Pharmacist?

What are the advantages and disadvantages between becoming a hospital pharmacist and a doctor?

  • I am currently coming to the point when I have to start thinking about University applications for courses starting September 2013. After a long contemplation and seeing a few documentaries on different professions, I've decided I'd like to either be a doctor or pharmacist. Please can anyone help me with the pros and cons of the different careers.

A pharmacist is mainly involved with drugs. It's an easier path than being a doctor because you'll be commonly dealing with prescribing drugs. Being a doctor means diagnosing illnesses, making interventions like treatments, drugs, surgeries, etc. You'll have to learn not only drugs but also endless numbers of viruses, diseases, and the proper interventions for those. For me it's more fulfilling than being a pharmacist because it offers you a wide variety of ways in which you can 'cure' the sick. One more disadvantages though : studying medicine is very very very expensive.

A doctor is more labor-intensive than a pharmacist. It's more responsability and you can specialise what type of doctor you want to be- IE pediatrics, eye doctor, urologist etc etc. You'll be in school longer. Pharmacist is not easy, but easier than being a full-blown doctor. There is a great demand for both so you will be well-paid and yo uwill find it easy to find a job.
