What is the best way to improve your language skills?

(brain surgery) Is there a way to improve myself?

  • I had a brain surgery when i was 7 years old and removed my entire left side of the brain and now i'm 18 and i only have the right side with me. Gladly, i don't have any seizures anymore and i could be like everyone else. EXCEPT that for some reason, i can't be fluent in English. I've lived in U.S. for 12 years+ now and i could understand quite well but i get really nervous and i can't speak fluently. Many people think that i came to the U.S. for 2 years. And i get really mad. In addition, i can't comprehend and analyze and lead organizations (high school clubs or activities) well.. and i can't act quickly of course since left lobe is all about language. But, is there a way to improve myself? Can i be active and fluent somehow? I might not be able to act quickly but there's gotta be a way to improve something... social skills maybe? speaking skills? i get really depressed everyday cuz i feel left out... and i can't go out with popular kids in high school and i'm just always alone...

  • Answer:

I don't think to many people here will be able to help you unless they can relate. I think you need people who experience the same thing that you do. My Father has frontal lobe brain damage and he gets support here: http://www.tbihome.org/ I know it helps him and I am sure it will help you. Make a post there.
