Are all proteins enzymes?

What do enzymes that metabolize carbohydrates, fats and proteins consist of?

  • It seems that just about every vitamin and mineral plays a part in metabolism. But are the digestive enzymes a soup full of these vitamins and minerals, or are the vitamins and minerals simply a small ingredient with hydrochloric acid playing the major part.

  • Answer:

All enzymes seem to be made up of one or a small collection of protein molecules. For simplicity I will refer to single protein enzyme molecules. Each enzyme has an active site where the catalytic action occurs. Some enzymes have an extra site which changes the shape of the enzyme molecule making it more or less active.
