Effect of taking Dextromethorphan with an SSRI? What exactly will happen?
-
I'm on 20 mg of Celexa, which is an SSRI. I've heard that taking a medication with DXM (like cough medicine, cold medicine, etc.) can cause dangerous side effects. I'm not thinking of abusing any kind of over the counter drug to get high or anything, I just want to know how exactly my body will react. I'm curious but I can't find anything about what exactly happens when someone takes both of the drugs at the same time. Thanks. :)

Answer:
Great question, I was on Celexa for the longest time and was always worried about interactions! Unless you are planning to abuse the Dextromethorphan (DXM), you'llbe fine. Don't take more than the recommded dose though because the DXM begings to interact with the citalopram (celexa) and the effects are increased. Be safe! Hope this helps!
