What do we really know about stem cells?
-
If someone is given stem cells from a fetus wouldn't they have to take medication to keep from rejecting them? Wouldn't it be more logical to use the stem cells that the body already produces? I wonder how hard it is to harvest stem cells?
-
Answer:
Rejection? Maybe. Probably wouldn't be an issue if your own DNA was cloned into the embryonic stem cell and the cells were then grown in culture. Harvesting adult stem cells is easy in theory, although it can be tricky to properly identify them. Adult stem cells are more likely to be limited in what they could do than embryonic stem cells.
