Is Being a Physician Or Surgeon Exciting?

What are the pros and cons of being a physician/surgeon at a Veterans Affairs hospital?

  • What are the hours for a head and neck surgeon, neurosurgeon, cardiac surgeon, and cardiac electrophysiologist? How is pay for all of them? How is quality of life for all of them?

  • Answer:

PROS: At the VA, it is socialized medicine system completely run by the government. For that reason, there are short hours, you go home at a reasonable time, you are protected from lawsuits because they would have to sue the federal government if you commit malpractice, and you don't really have to work very hard or do a super good job. CONS: Many people who are surgeons and work at the VA as their primary job have a skeleton in their closet, like they drink a bit too much. Others just want an easier job. The pay is like way less than you could make in the real world, since like I said, it is socialized. You won't make more than around 150K, which is low for a surgeon.
