What does RTS on a new prescription mean?
-
Went to a new doctor today and he wrote a new prescription for my pain meds. On the top he wrote "RTS" - I've never seen that abbreviation before, except as "Return to Sender" on mail. What does this mean?
-
Answer:
It is "Returned to stock" when on a pill bottle. Returned to stock (RTS), indicates prescription abandonment, which typically happens to medications that are not picked up within 14 days; or RTS with an indication that the prescription was abandoned but that the patient purchased a prescription in the same class at another pharmacy.
