I want to be an Anesthesiologist.

I want to be an anesthesiologist. but i need to know...?

  • if anesthesiologist. are allowed to have medicines that commom people cant buy and if it is hard and exciting??? Pangolin i want to be like you i also want to know if i can have a normal life being a doctor like having kids and mrrying ... thanks

    Aww, gee, thanks! We get to use all kinds of interesting medications, but only for the patients, of course. Some medical people think they an handle using drugs, but it catches up with them. Of course you can have a normal life. I have a husband and 3 kids. Most of my colleagues are married and have families. People like us are very driven, so we tend to have very full lives. We study chemistry in college, and biochemistry in medical school. It's one of those things that you need to know, but won't use much. Physiology is what we use all the time, and we get to see it in action daily. Study hard, learn your sciences, but don't forget to have fun!

Well just because someone is an anesthetist, it doesnt mean he/she can easily get access to all the drugs for their personal use. It is against law to abuse these drugs for their personal use. And i guess you are already in medical school....so there is no point in wondering now, whether you can have a normal life, marriage,etc :) And regarding Chemistry......well, there is very little chemistry involved in any subject of medicine.(may be except biochemistry). May be u will be exposed to some basic chemistry, while reading about different chemical classes of drugs,etc But in daily practice of anesthesiology, u rarely use this knowledge of chemistry. Anyway, i dont know where you are from, but if you are from USA, Anesthesia is one of the best specialities to get into, as it is one of the least stressful of the surgical specialities. So, you can very well have a wonderful life, marriage & kids.....good luck!
