How would you go about donating?

How would you go about donating your body to science?

  • well. you would donate it before you die, or at least organise it, it would be a little tricky to do it after you die!! but anyway, how would you do it?

  • Answer:

I don't know about Ireland but in the US we can donate our body parts and I think our bodies by the Organ Donar Sign on your drivers license. I have already signed up to donate mine via my drivers license. I believe that once you are dead your soul is gone that there is nothing left but a bag of bones in a body. So, why not help out others and possibly save their life or make their life easier? If just one part of my body can either save or help someone's life it is totally worth it.

Depends where you are. In Ontario you can do Organ donations via your Health Card or a paper that is sent out with your drivers license. Live donation is also an option. A google search http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=donate+body+to+science&btnG=Google+Search&meta= will show a bunch of tutorials. It depends where you are from. There are many different organizations that allow scientific donation. I myself am a full body donor via the Trillium Foundation, which is assosiated with the government of Ontario. There is a huge need for donor organs, so unless you know a reason not to I suggest you sign up to donate your body at death, afterall, scientifically speaking it'll just rot in the ground anyway. Unless they are lying to us, then really why should we be blamed for what we don't know. BTW your body may not be accepted for medical science IF you donate organs. Organ donation is a direct gift of life, while donations to medical science may have latent benefits.. I feel there is more of a need for organ donation, but I could be mistaken on short falls in cadavers. As well as organs (i would hope they would accept partial cadaver donations.... makes no sense)

make love to a scientist. im sure they would like your donation...and that way you dont have to die first to benefit from your contribution. (just a joke dear)

I have mixed feelings about the subject after the way it was handled after my sons death.......I'd have to think about it.

I think it probably depends on where you live, but many medical schools have programs for this purpose. Medical schools use bodies both for instruction of anatomy and for anatomical research. This is a course of action that a lot of people don't understand, but I know I appreciated the opportunity to have a real human body to study from in medical school. (To those who think this is such a crazy idea - would you like your surgeon to be seeing the inside of a human body for the first time when he/she cuts into your skin?) If you have other, more specific ideas about wanting your body used for scientific purposes, I'm not sure how you'd go about that exactly. But, I think contacting a medical school near you would be a good way to start. Hope that helps.
