What is the role of the Nurse in healthcare?

The role of Nurses in healthcare is to not only provide medical treatment, but also to provide individualized, holistic treatment as well. Nurses aren't just people who give shots and take temperatures, they are also educators, patient management organizers (triage), and patient advocates.

they do what the doc tells them. they draw blood, do IVs, shots, help the patient in making them comfortable, helping the patient to the restroom. much more, but everytime i've been to the hospital, which is a lot [between juvinile diabeties and breaking my knee 3 times, and two surgerys] the nurses have been exeptional. and the hospital was just a regular one. =)

The role of a GOOD nurse is very simple, treat every patient as you would want to be treated if you were in their place. Doctors also rely on nurses for much info. For instance, the nurse knows what meds the patient is on. If a doctor orders another med, it is up to that nurse to let the doctor know if the new med will cause any interactions with the old med they continue to take. Doctors are not stupid, I am not saying that. It is only because they have so many patients, they can't remember all the meds their patients are on. Never, ever be nasty to a patient.
