Why do people die when stop breathing?
-
I am wondering about two things, as a question they may be ridiculous, but I am sure most of us do not know the correct answer. 1. Why do people die soon when some one close his nose and mouth. (We have Oxygen in our blood already. so it should be possible to be live at least 5-10 minutes) 2. Why can’t we keep stopping our breathing more than a minute or so? What make that inconvenience we feel in our chest and abdomen?

Answer:
When you're not taking in oxygen you're also not letting out carbon dioxide which is poisonous to our bodies. CO2 is acidic and will quickly change the pH of your blood thus quickly killing off your cells. The "inconvenience" in our chests is our body's instinct driving us to get air by building pressure in our lungs (CO2 gas build up). The pressure tells us we need to breathe!!

Breathing help blood circuling in your body. Stop breathing => No blood circulation => The heart stop "working" => Brain stop working = Dead

It is said that you can't die holding your breath but when someone or something stops your breath, it is possible because that is already unintentional for your body to cease breathing and people die when they do because the body needs to have oxygen by inhaling and release Carbon dioxide by exhaling and when you stop breathing, you may not do either of the two and so the unnecessary CO2 makes your lungs in poor condition and so it affects the other body organs especially the heart and the brain as your body's supply of oxygen is diminishing.

1. The body is constantly using energy. This uses up glucose and oxygen. Therefore the body has a constant need for oxygen. Also there is a constant generation of CO2. CO2 is a waste product and a "poison" to the system. The lungs take in oxygen and and release CO2. Without adequate ventilation of the respiratory system... the lack of oxygen and build up of CO2 throws the acid/ base balance of the body and homeostasis off. If this isn't corrected quickly, the brain function malfunctions and the heart follows suit and ceases to pump blood properly. this equals DEATH. 2. short answer.. the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.

1. After about 4 minutes the blood to your brain stops yeilding oxygen and your brain begins to die. Since your brain controls your autonomic nervous system thatttt pretty much means your screwed. 2. the inconvenience is the negative pressure your feel as your lungs are compressed desperately trying to inhale

Carbon Dioxide. The by product of the oxygen our bodies utilize is toxic to our systems. Holding our breath causes the levels of CO2 to rise, which sends the body into a survival mode, forcing you to breathe.

First of all you must realize that our body is like machine. we need energy which obtained by burning of oxygen. People did not die but went unconscious and slowly their body organs stopped working and die. By practicing there are people (e.g. marine divers) who able to stop their breathe for long period.

Interesting question. It should be noted that you can't die by holding your breath, you faint and continue breathing unconsciously, so technically, you faint because your body is protecting you from doing it for more time so that the blood has a constant flow of oxygen and you don't die. If you're underwater, then you can't breathe when you faint, so you do die, but after a while, not immediately. Hope this helps!

Well, you're heart cannot survive without O2. Without O2 for at least 3-5 minutes brain damage can occur. Your O2 is exchanged for CO2. When Co2 builds up........ your organs suffer, and die, esp. you heart (the pump) Second, your brain stem tells your body to breathe. It detects CO2 and lets your body know that it needs O2, so it tells you to breathe. Your body will struggle to get new O2 and keep your body alive.

you can stop breathing but it hink its just insinct to try once your blood-oxgen levels star to dive. i dont think people really die all that fast from suffocation i think you just go unconcious first and then your brain starts to shut down i meant you can stop breathing for more than aminute, me and a friend used to compete in a real boring math class
