What traditional definition of marriage does the US uphold?

  • The Biblical traditional definition of marriage? "A lifelong union between 2 people who share the same religion" (Remember, we are not to be unequally yolked with unbelievers?) or the American traditional definition of marriage, used for all but the last 42 years of American history: "A union between a man and woman of the same race"? The definition for marriage in the United States, in most states at least, is "A union between a man and woman, which can be performed while intoxicated at a drive-thru in Vegas, and ended the next day, if they so want to" What cultures tradition is this definition from? And since we have changed our definition of marriage so many times from the traditional definition, why not just change it one more time? Oh, and P.S. (Sure has a lot of "sanctity" to it, don't you think? I'm sure God is so proud of us for preserving the sanctity of Britney Spears 48 hour marriage)

If you're for changing the definition of marriage, then you have no business telling others that they can't change it as well. If a man can marry another man, then I want to marry my plant. Marriage is defined by the Bible, by the way. If you don't like it, too bad, but that's the way it is. If you want your own definition of it, then call it something else. I, for one, can't invent my own brand of shoe and call it Nike.

Whatever society believes it should be at the time. I am happy that gays and lesbians will be allowed to marry in the near future based on demographic trends. I think they should be able to personally.

yeah, I won't blow you smoke... you made a few valid points. Still, the whole thing should be up to the voters of each state. So far I do not think any stated voted for homosexual marriage, its all been judicial or executive/
