Why all the 'wealth redistribution' whiners in this section?

  • Wealth has a natural tendency to concentrate into the hands of a few individuals. This should be resisted to the extent that it can be without limitations on our liberties; the form of crapitalism we have not only doesn't seem to resist it at all (most corporations don't pay taxes or their share), but actually rewards it in many cases (subsidy, state support). Why should this be limited? Because it creates illiquidity and gaming in the monetary system, which in turn leads to recessions and depressions, panics et al. The illiquidity comes from safeguarding, and 'relief valve' processing of funds. Those funds, although moving, do not ever make their way into the economy at large, which is where they need to ultimately find themselves for a healthy economy. Thus, the 'redistribution' of wealth as it is often put. I don't hold with wealth redistribution either, which is why I am violently opposed to support of a system that actually helps this gaming of the system in the first place. You cannot tell me that my CEO is worth 400 times what I am to my company for example. They aren't, and I will never believe so. EVER. Finally if you think that this gaming of the system is such a necessity for our 'liberties', I have to call you to task. The rich and powerful can outlast the rest of us all day long, upside down and sideways in a recession/depression scenario. And these downturns in the economy are where the system becomes gamed. The average Joe has to make all the sacrifices while the robber barons laugh all the way to the bank. Then the 'sacrificed' status quo becomes the new norm, until the next recession where more sacrifices are demanded of us all over again. I have to ask folks who continue to support this demand for sacrifices on both their and my part: Why do you continually defend this system and its policies? You don't like to bail out banks, but you support every measure that brings it to that; then you turn around and blame it on something else (morality, corporate tax, corporate mandates or even FUTURE policy). Isn't this like saying: This guy robbed my house, but hey that is because 'somebody else robbed somebody else', or 'he had to pay too many taxes' or 'they made him attend public school in his youth' or my favorite 'because someone might rob from him in the future'. Then here is your self-defeatist solution: "I defend your right to rob my house, but much of that stuff was not covered by your robbers insurance, so I am pissed at you for that; you are off the hook though because I will blame somebody else; but I am still pissed" Don't you CONS realize how stupid this sounds?

    Oligarchy comes to mind. I dont begrudge anyone to go out and make money. I just cant stand any system of government in which virtually all political power is held by a very small number of wealthy but otherwise unmeritorious people who shape public policy primarily to benefit themselves financially through direct subsidies to their agricultural estates or business firms, lucrative government contracts, and protectionist measures aimed at damaging their economic competitors. You said it when they support the measures of the bailouts, but are still pissed off about them. People who took out loans they could not afford were punished by the loss of their house. Lenders were punished in the form of bailouts and bonuses. Conservaties have no clue.

Damn. *claps* Edit: In response to the people who think anyone not wealthy "just doesn't want it enough." Some of us abhor wealth. We get enough to live off of and to maybe do some fun things. Some of us have been offered jobs by corporations for large salaries and turned them down for ethical reasons. Others just never had the chance. Whether this was from lack of education (due to poverty, etc.), prejudice (not allowing minorities into businesses, promoting, etc.), and so forth. Don't presume that just because a person doesn't have a lot of money that they couldn't. Ah, America, where the only thing that matters is how much cash you have.

Despite the clarity with which you have presented your arguments and despite the fact that you're obviously a person with intellect, your expectation that the Cons would realize the falsehood of their views or even read your post surprises me. You can't prove to anyone that they are wrong, if all they have is certainty of their own righteousness!

Why is your CEO not worth 400 times what you make? If you never believe so, do you believe that Brad Pitt is worth that? How about Alex Rodriguez? The fact is that society places a value on the output of a person, your unwillingness to believe that is your failure not society's or the person who is "worth" that money. You come across as jealous from that comment. You resent those who have the talent and skills to make that kind of money, not because they can make it but because they don't spend it the way you want them to (your illiquidity argument). So basically it comes down to this. You don't like those who make more than you because you feel you are undervalued and they don't use their money to help you out. Don't you realize how stupid this sounds?

Certain lower to middle middle class people always think they are getting screwed. When in reality no one cares about them one way or another. They don't pay taxes any higher or lower than the people they live next door to, Repub or Dem. The wealthy get the crap taxed out of them, so I understand (to an extent) why they go republican. But these other idiots just want something to be mad about so they can feel like they are a part of the process. Trust me they have nothing to complain about.

Two points crap for brains. First off, wealth has no mind of it's own, so it doesn't have a tendency to do anything except what those who use this tool do with it, second I suggest you study where the majority of our tax revenue comes from, becuase if you would indeed do that you would see that 50 to 60 percent of our operating budget is paid by corporations and wealthy individuals while the poor pay nothing and in many cases receive money back from the IRS they never paid in. So from where I'm standing the only wealth distributing whiners I see are those like yourself who want to distribute the wealth of others to those who pay nothing to keep our system operating or refuse to go out into the world and stake their own claim.
