Why did communism fail in the Soviet Union?

If communism doesn't work, then how come the Soviet Union survived over 70 years?

  • If communism really doesn't work, then how come you don't have to pay kids to do their homework and get good grades? Answer: There are incentives beyond money. As long as there is food and water and shelter, which communism provides to everybody freely. If communism doesn't work, then how come we so feared the might of a second superpower, the USSR, a country thriving on a system we claim does not work. Answer: The US revised and twisted history after they defeated their opposors. If Communism really doesn't work, then how come it so spread like a domino effect and inspired Maoists and other socialist movements worldwide? Answer: From the proletariat, lower hardworking laborers, a yearning for equality was met. Now I suppose once terrorists get nukes and destroy us, they too may revise history and say free market globalization doesn't work either, am I right?

  • Answer:

Communism through socialism does work, however, corruption, despotism, nationalism and plots from the US-led west did work, too. Socialism is a very good system, but it's not perfect enough to survive those issues. Russia before communist revolution was nothing, just a big land with many natural resources but so much poor people, and just a few rich. Under communism, Russia achieved to be the first nation to send a man, a woman and a dog to the space, achieved industralisation, achieved great scientific, educational and health-related development. Achieved to be the only country in the world to be a real opponent to the capitalism of the US and western Europe. Yes, there were several issues and defects in the USSR, but, even that way, it achieved so many things, now can you imagine what would it have been if communism were well applied?... Now you can see, under new and wild capitalism Russia is now in the same hole: poor people getting poorer, richs getting richer, they don't have soo much freedom and democracy, racism on the rise, alcoholism, low birth rates, high mortality...not only in Russia, but in every former soviet republic. I think that disolving the USSR wasn't necessary, it was necessary just to reform it, in order to make it more liberal and transparent, but not to end with more than 70 years of work.

Military power and fear allowed it to work for so many years. But now that the fear has subsided all there countries are leaving the Soviet Union.

Wow 70 years. That has got to be a record right? No. If communism works why has it failed almost everywhere it was tried? The US has lasted for almost three hundred years, now that's a success.

It survived 70 years because leftists in America didn't listen to George Patton. If it works so well, I am surprised more people are not flooding into North Korea.
