Blogs, politics, and the information age?

• Is anyone else somewhat troubled by the explosion of political blogs? I am. On one hand, they are the epitomy of freedom of speech, because your message can travel far and wide. On the other more troubling hand, anyone can write one. So called "old fashioned" media, such as printed news and broadcasts, are performed by people who studied in college to get these positions. It is a job, one where if you don't perform you're out the door. Education in America is not the best, and I largely blame disaffected students. Blogs are not subject to these criteria, no one is going to fire you for not fact-checking, and citing your sources is not required. Some blogs do cite other blogs, which cited other blogs, and the chain goes on and on, making one question where this information ever materialized from, and how accurate and reliable it is. If you don't like blogs, please state why. If you do like blogs, state why and post a link to the home page of your favorite.

  A general rule of thumb: If your blog doesn't source it most likely isn't credible. Another problem with blogs is that they are mostly subjective, with a slanted veiwpoint, thus rendering them to little more than propaganda. But, overall most major blogs can be judged as credible, even moreso than major media, which has seen a decline in subscribers because they are in bed with the military, FEMA, Homeland Security and the Whitehouse.
