Does anyone think that Homo Sapiens is offensive?

What do you guys think about Black History Month?

  • I don't quite understand it, black people have fought for years trying to be equal yet they feel they need a black history month. People shouldn't be proud of other people their own race, they should be proud of ANYONE that has done something good. If you think they should have a black history month because blacks have had a hard life, well many years ago Jews and Italians had a hard time with prejudice in America and they don't have their own month. I am not saying there should be a month for white people too. I am saying there shouldn't be a month for any particular race/ethnicity/culture. If we had to have a month it should be "Homo Sapiens" month, for all people.

    Why do so many people want to take away black history month. This goes all the way back to the slave master days when they made it the sole job to erase all of our history, our culture, names, language and most of all our identity and nationality. So that we as a people will forget who we are and were we come from, then replace it with new history there history. In 1832 a U.S. Senator named Henry Berry said to the Virginia house of Delegates: "We have as far as possible closed every avenue by which the truth may enter the slave's mind. If we could extinguish the capacity to see the truth, our work would be complete. They would then be on the level with the beast of the field". Willie Lynch said: Our experts warned us about the possibility of this phenomenon occurring, for they say that the mind has a strong drive to correct and recorrect itself over a period of time if it can touch some substantial original historical base and they advise us that the best way to deal with this phenomenon is to shave off the brutes mental history and create a multiplicity of phenomena of illusions, so that each illusion will twirl in its own orbit, something similar to floating balls in a vacuum. Neither they nor their for bearers ever owned slaves nor can they see themselves as having held anyone back or down." Today the younger generations of Whites resent being held morally or financially responsible for the racial sins of their ancestors, even though as whites, they still enjoy the inherited advantages and privileges of slavery."

I think we need a black history month to help give some recognition to those who are black and have not been given proper respect. dispite what u may think, there were and are many more important blacks than just MLK and Oprah. it's bad enough that its the shortest month of the year, but for u to say it is not needed is not being realistic. and it is not "black people"'s fault that there is not a Jewish history month or another nationality or that if ther is one it is not well known

The fact of the matter is that things are not equal as many homo sapians may think. Yes in a ideal world no one will descriminate but we do not live in an ideal world. Yes many other races have suffered in the United States, such as Native Americans, and Jews, but how many of them were enslaved and brought to a country against their will, and sold by thier own people and forced to give up their families, religion, culture, native language, identity. African Americans today do not know where they come from and what country their families came from. Jewish people know they are jewish, and for most instinces they know their native toung, they know what country they came from and still have people in those places. And this is just an example. A majority of African Americans Do Not... So why not celebrate what we do know of African Americans. One month of celebration is not enough... raceism is still very much alive... and we do not live in that perfect world where all people are equal. The celebration of my heratage"what little history I may have left" is all we have... And many people may need to take a second and walk a day in my shoes and see for your self how real raceism is alive. Take a moment and think how it would feel to not have a family trail to trace. Take a moment and not ask why Black History is one month, ask why is black history, which isAmerican History not taught every day.

if we're going to continue with it, based on the "silence" factor... let's include a month of lesbian and gay history a month of asian history a month of albino history etc.

I agree. American history is that. We don't need to keep being remided that only the blacks were slaves. There were so many people that were slaves. How about the American Indians having their land taken away from them. How about the Jews being killed just for their religions, and forced into the concentration camps. If they made it a point to have a month dedicated to Jews, Blacks, and every other race that had wrong doings to them, we probably would have more than 12 months in a year. People need to be aware of everything, not just the bad and not just the good. And why dont we have a White History Month anyways? and since everyone is on the topic, how come we dont have white only colleges? There are several black only colleges so why dont we have white only? There was a time of segregation so are the black segregating themselves by attending these colleges?

I like how Morgan Freeman put it on sixty minutes. In a nut shell it is stupid to regulate it to only one month. Black history is an important part of World history and the History of the United States.
