Which do liberals hate more: gun ownership or homeschooling?

The first element gun ownership and homeschooling have in common is self-reliance. A firearm in the hands of a trained and peaceable person makes that person more able to protect himself and his family against any who would seek to harm them. Likewise, homeschooling allows a family to nurture educated, capable, independent children without relying upon the government. The second commonality lies in providing something for your family that government cannot, or will not, offer. As capable as our police are, they cannot be nearby every second of every day and cannot offer you the constant protection that your own firearm can. Similarly, homeschooling allows you to raise your children according to your beliefs, using your values, and with accountability that only one-on-one instruction can provide Remember, not everyone who supports homeschooling chooses to homeschool their own kids. So, too, not everyone who supports the Second Amendment chooses to own a firearm.     Dead Marxist is right again. I do not doubt that there are Leftist people who were homeschooled and have a gun, but liberal philosophy, such as it is, like all philosophy, is concerned with generalities. As to why Leftists hate home-schooling, I think it is a bit more venal than Dead Marxist, who is a more charitable soul, thinks. If a burglar is killed by a homeowner, in most of the USA, the homeowner goes free. This means there is no trial - not for the homeowner - not for the burglar. There is no repeat offense. It has a chilling effect on a whole lot of low lifes - so there are fewer crimes, fewer trials, fewer victims, less need for social workers, prosecutors, jailkeeps, police, defence lawyers, welfare and no need for more civil servants to supervise the police, etc. Home schooling is even more disruptive to the sordid business of the hogs eating out of the public troughs. It is also embarrassing because home schooled children do better, on average, than their publicly schooled brethren. Let me stress, it is no fault of the publicly schooled children. What we have to stop doing is rewarding liberals for failure. Doing that makes it easy to be a liberal.

Wow. More stereotyping. How extremely helpful. I happen to be a liberal, and I don't have any problem with gun ownership OR homeschooling. I do believe in gun safety and gun control, but that only means keeping us and our children safe, not keeping people from their right to own the guns that the Constitution rightfully protects. All I ask for is gun safety and prevention of the wrong people getting them. As far as homeschooling is concerned, studies show that home schooled children test very well. Some of them have a hard time adapting to college, but on the whole they do alright. So long as the parents are qualified to teach their children, and that they still make sure their kids are socialized properly, then I think homeschooling is great! So I'm living proof that you are grossly oversimplifying the liberal side. Typical. I can hardly blame you, though, because a lot of dimwitted liberals do the same thing to conservatives. It is this partisan attitude that is causing all the corruption in our government. Too many people care about what side of the fence they are on, and not enough people care about the issues themselves and what is right.

Sangria is one of the exceptions here. Also, there are many liberal gun owners on this forum. It's those who are extreme that create most of the problems and tend to speak out the loudest. They want to take our rights away from us and at the same time, expect to force their agendas down our throats, whether we like them or not. My rights to gun ownership will never be marginalized and hopefully homeschooling will continue to be allowed. Some of the smartest kids I've ever met have been home schooled.

Yeah, so this isn't so much a question as a thinly-veiled rant. But I'll indulge you. I couldn't care less if you own a gun - as long as you follow the rules necessary to own one. And you're right. I do hate homeschooling. But not for the reason you claim I do. (Although I'm sure it's impossible to believe that you, who have never met me, don't have the inside track on my psyche.) I hate homeschooling because what it involves is a bunch of ignorant people teaching their children to be ignorant. People who don't have the knowledge it takes to have an intelligent conversation with someone else are acting as impartial instructors to their own children. The children become socially retarded and educationally deficient and completely incapable of functioning in the real world. THAT is why I hate homeschooling.
